Week 6: Do Not Fear

A Study of the commands from our Lord, Jesus the Christ

Week 6: "Do Not Fear"

I spent WAY too much time thinking about the command "Do Not Fear". I looked at the verses where Jesus commanded various people to "not be afraid"; when all I needed to do is follow the one command from our LORD found in Luke 12:5 (NIV).

"But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him"

Jesus makes it clear to fear "him" that has the authority to throw you into hell. There is only one "him" that has that authority and that is the LORD himself. No other "created" being has that authority.

Not even you. You can choose hell and a lot of people do; but ONLY the LORD has the authority to put you there.

Therefore, the ONLY thing I am to fear is the LORD. I am commanded by Jesus to fear NOTHING else. And if you remember the first command in this series, "Love the LORD", then the words of the Apostle John really comforts you: 1 John 4:18 (NLT)

"Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear."

Take time reflect on the words found in 1 John 4:15-18 (NLT).

Read them to understand that anyone that LOVES the LORD has nothing to fear.

Listed below is the Greek word that is translated into "fear" or "afraid" and the verses that Jesus commanded people to "not be afraid"

The Greek word that Jesus used is "phobeō" The KJV translates Strongs G5399 in the following manner: fear (62x), be afraid (23x), be afraid of (5x), reverence (1x), misc (2x).
