Week 24: Preach the Gospel - A Deeper Dive

A Study of the commands from our Lord, Jesus the Christ

Week 24, May 9th

This week's Tour Stop is going to take a deeper "dive" into the commands found in Mark 16:15 (NASB)

"And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.'"

The first command is: "Go into all the world"

The second command is: "preach the gospel"

The Greek word for "Go" is "poreuō" which means "to pursue the journey on which one has entered, to continue on one's journey."

Jesus is commanding us to continue our journey, our life, in this world. The word "world" is the Greek word, "kosmos"; which can mean "the inhabitants of the earth, men, the human family"

So while you are continuing your journey don't forget to preach the gospel.

And what does preach the gospel mean?

The Greek word for gospel is "euaggelion" , "the glad tidings of salvation through Christ"

The Greek word for preach is "kēryssō". Which has the meaning of "to publish, proclaim openly: something which has been done".

In other words, "preach the gospel" means to proclaim the glad tidings of salvation through Christ.

What does it take to obey these commands? It means you, a disciple of Christ, are to proclaim the glad tidings of salvation through Christ as you continue your journey in this world.

Yes, it can mean traveling to a foreign country, which is part of the "kosmos".

It can also mean walking next door to your neighbor and sharing "the glad tidings of salvation through Christ" OR if you meet someone new sharing what Christ has done for you.

Paul writes in Romans 10:17 (NASB), "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ."

By proclaiming the word of Christ as you just live and meet others, you are obeying both of these commands. And if you are obeying the commands of Jesus you are showing your love for Jesus (see John 14:15 (NASB)).
