A Study of the commands from our Lord, Jesus the Christ


This being week one, I decided to reflect on the greatest commandment: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." Matthew 22:37 (NIV) The link shows the verse in the original Greek language along with the English text. During my exploration of this verse, I will use both the Greek and English text to make a point.

Now lets break down the command according to our paradigm. First, the command is directed to everyone that believes in GOD. I realize that the scribe or lawyer was trying to trick Jesus so he could use the answer to discredit Jesus later. BUT Jesus would not play their game. Jesus just restated the words his heavenly Father used back in Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV).

The meaning of the command is straight forward. Love the LORD with everything you have: your heart, your soul and your mind. Yes, the meaning is clear; BUT how do I Love the LORD?

I cannot give you a magic formula, I often wish I could, but then you might look to me, a sinner, for guidance and put your focus on something other than the LORD. Remember Jesus told you that you have an Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who would come and guide you in all Truth John 14:26 (NIV).

GOD, Himself, The Holy Spirit, will guide you. That is a promise from the LORD GOD. You want to know how to obey this command? Then remember this command from Jesus, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:": Matthew 7:7 (KJV).

That is it for week 1. I got nothing else until next week. My only job is to encourage you to read the word of GOD just like the noble-minded Bereans of Acts 17:11 (NIV) who eagerly listened, BUT searched the Scriptures to make sure everything I am writing is true.
